About
Seamus Mulryan earned his Ph.D. in Educational Policy Studies, with an emphasis in Philosophy of Education, at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign under the supervision of Chris Higgins. He also holds an M.A. in Philosophy & Education from Teachers College of Columbia University and a B.S. in Physics from Beloit College. In his dissertation, Mulryan examined what it means and how one learns to be courageous in dialogue, and he argued that such courage is a virtue worth cultivating in the youth of a culturally diverse, democratic society. His general interests are in ethics and moral education, teacher education and training, the educative dimensions of philosophical hermeneutics, and existential psychoanalysis.
Seamus Mulryan has published articles and book chapters on Hegel, Heidegger, and Hans-Georg Gadamer in relation to the topics of dialogue, ethics, human development, and educational administration. In addition, he has published book reviews and encyclopedia entries in curriculum theory and on the topics of social psychology, social theory, and pragmatism as they relate to education.
